The Best Thing That Happened This Week: The Sixers Won

They avoided setting a new record for consecutive losses to start a season. Again!

For the second year in a row, our city’s intrepid basketball team managed to avoid setting a new league record for the most consecutive losses to start a season, beating the Lakers 103 to 91 on Tuesday night to hold tight at 18 straight losses, a record of futility shared with the 2009-’10 New Jersey Nets. For those still faithfully following this team, it was a sweet, sweet triumph, especially since the win marked the final Philly appearance of Lower Merion’s supercilious superstar, Kobe Bryant. Fans at the sold-out Wells Fargo Center demonstrated hitherto unsuspected class in greeting Bryant with cheers rather than hisses and batteries. It was the Sixers’ first win since last March 25th. Players and fans were ecstatic.

The next night, the team reverted to its usual form. No sense getting us spoiled.
