Source: “Gloria Casarez Way” in the Works

A source close to G Philly has informed us that Philadelphia City Council will hear a resolution today that will propose a stretch of 12th Street be named after Gloria Casarez, the late LGBT civil rights leader and the city’s first Director of LGBT Affairs.

The resolution will propose that the 200 block of South 12th Street be named Gloria Casarez Way. A second reading by council will be scheduled for December 3. Should the measure pass, a sign installation and dedication will occur at a date to be determined.

This would be another honor for Ms. Casarez, who recently had a mural dedicated on the side of 12th Street Gym. The project, which was completed by Mural Arts Program, was unveiled last month.
