Putin Consults With Elton John Over LGBT Equality

It is one of those headlines that leaves you thinking, “Huh?” Apparently, Sir Elton John has been called on by Vladimir Putin to discuss LGBT equality in Russia.

A report in Attitude claims that John challenged Putin to a discussion on LGBT rights, and within 24 hours of his request, the leader of Russia phoned him.

In fact, the singer took to Instagram to post the following picture:

Thank-you to President Vladimir Putin for reaching out and speaking via telephone with me today. I look to forward to meeting with you face-to-face to discuss LGBT equality in Russia. @president_vladimir_putin @ejaf #lgbt #lgbtrights #ShareTheLove

The caption reads, “Thank-you to President Vladimir Putin for reaching out and speaking via telephone with me today. I look forward to meeting with you face-to-face to discuss LGBT equality in Russia.”

This comes on the heels of Sir Elton John speaking at the #YesUkraine2015 Conference in Kiev, where he met with Ukraine President Poroshenkso to suggest the country “ban discrimination in the workplace based on sexuality and gender identity [and] provide criminal penalties for hate crimes.”
