One day after trading away high-priced closer Jonathan Papelbon, the Phillies tonight have reportedly agreed to send Cole Hamels to the Texas Rangers in a deal involving multiple prospects.

Reports of the imminent deal started making their way around Twitter tonight around 10 p.m.

The Rangers have apparently agreed to the deal, which would net them Hamels, reliever Jake Diekman and cash for Texas prospects outfielder Nick Williams, catcher Jorge Alfaro, pitchers Jake Thompson and Alec Asher, veteran pitcher Matt Harrison, and with the potential for one or more prospects to be added to the deal. Some reports also have pitcher Jerad Eickhoff coming to the Phillies.

As of 12:15 a.m., neither team had confirmed a deal.

Jon Morosi of Fox and MLB Network tweeted preliminary specs of the deal.

Most sources have confirmed that Williams, Alfaro, Asher and Harrison are part of the deal, but some reports have Eickhoff in the package, some have Thompson and others have both.

It is likely the end of an era for Hamels and the Phillies. However, the trade is pending physicals on both teams’ part, so it will not be complete until tomorrow.
