It’s been nearly a year since Mo’ne Davis and the Taney Dragons made their magical run in the Little League World Series, but the world — and ESPN — hasn’t forgotten: Davis on Wednesday won the network’s “Breakthrough Athlete” ESPY award, beating out Giants wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones and golfer Jordan Spieth.
Her acceptance speech was short and modest — and at this point, even professional:
“Oh my goodness! First of all I want to say congrats to the other nominees. And I just want to thank my parents, my coach, my teammates, for helping me be the person I am today and for helping me get all the support I can no matter what happens. Thank you.”
