Kick Cancer’s Butt at Voyeur
“Cancer is gross. I mean, okay, yes. Cancer is ‘gross’ in the hypothetical, figurative sense with the daily life messes created by running around to doctor’s appointments, calming distressed friends and relatives, and trying to remember when you took your last does of anti-[insert side effect here] medication. But, beyond that, in a very literal sense, cancer is really gross.”
Those of the words of Bee Reed, whose blog, One Body, Two Battles, shares the often times gritty details of her fight with both HIV and leukemia (“I am living in a world where my body is fighting against two very different (and potentially lethal) diseases,” she wrote, “But, you know, things could always be worse”). However, Ms. Reed’s friends are coming together to help support her healthcare costs in a drag-themed show at Voyeur.
Aptly titled “Bee Aggressive,” the August 9th benefit features the talents of Josh Schonewolf, Mimi Imfurst, Bev, Mistor Fahrenheit, Lili St Queer/ Foster Henaghan, Gemini Rose, Honeytree Evil Eye, Sutton Fearce, Lavinia Loveless, Eric Jaffe, Larisa N Bunch, Danny de Vil, Pussy VonWienermuff, and Dinah Sore. The show, which starts at 8 pm, is “pay-what-you-can” and VIP tables will be available, along with raffles and prizes. More information on the show can be found here.
If you can’t make “Bee Aggressive” but are interested in donating towards Ms. Reed’s recovery, you can do so by visiting this website, and it should be duly noted that Reed recently wrote that collecting funds for her medical care “goes against every fiber in [her] being.” In short: This isn’t a rogue “Go Fund Me” campaign!
