Philly Jesus Deletes Pro-Gay Pride Posts, Comes Down Hard On Homosexuality
Gay pride was in full swing in Philadelphia on Sunday, with a big gay parade in the Gayborhood marking the 50th anniversary of the historic gay rights protest here that helped give birth to the gay rights movement. But one person not so happy with all of the gay glee is the man known to most as Philly Jesus.
Originally, Philly Jesus, whose real name is Mike Grant, had gotten caught up in the excitement surrounding last week’s monumental SCOTUS decision and the gay pride event in Philadelphia, posting some supportive messages about gay marriage on his various social media accounts. But as of Sunday, those posts had been deleted.
“I got convinced by the Holy Spirit that I should have never posted that stuff,” Philly Jesus told us on Sunday night. “My comments justified homosexuality. I was justifying sin, and I was justifying homosexuality. I had to go back on it and meditate and pray and really ask God if I was doing the right thing.”
And, really, who among us hasn’t posted something we’ve regretted on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram? But Philly Jesus went one step further. He didn’t just delete his post in support of the gay community. No, he posted some decidedly anti-gay propaganda as well.
Here’s what Philly Jesus had to say on Instagram:
and…
And on Facebook, he apologized to those in his flock who were upset with his posts in support of gays:
TO ALL MY TRUE BORN AGAiN CHRiSTiAN BROTHERS AND SiSTERS..i WANNA PUBLiCLY APOLiGiZE TO ALL OF YOU AND ASK FOR YOUR FORGiVENESS FOR THE LAST PAST COUPLE DAYS ON THE POSTs i WAS MAKiNG ABOUT SAME SEX MARRiAGE..YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE…i REPENT iN JESUS NAME..AND ASK FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND FORGiVENESS..
And it was also on Facebook that he came up with this lovely rhyme: “GAY PRiDE iS WHY SODOM GOT FRiED!”
Naturally, Philly Jesus has been getting quite a bit of backlash about his comments, but he’s also been getting a good amount of evangelical high-fives from his anti-gay brethren.
“The Supreme Court made a judgment on same sex marriage, and I just had to preach the truth of God,” he tells us. “Marriage is between a man and a woman. Homosexuality demotes human production. It’s against God. Sin is sin.”
We asked Philly Jesus about the commonly held belief that people are born gay, and if that is the case, how could being gay be a sin?
“Sin is sin,” he repeated. “As for people being born homosexual, there may be cases of children who are born with maybe a penis and a vagina at the same time, but these are rare cases.”
So we’re not entirely sure that Philly Jesus actually understands what it means to be a gay person. But, regardless of his understanding, he was quick to point out that he doesn’t hate gay people. He just hates gayness.
“God loves the sinner, but he don’t like the sin,” he explains. “I used to be a sinner like everybody else, and now I am here to tell people to repent. People on Earth don’t like to hear the word ‘repent.’ But believe me, people in Hell wish they could hear it one more time.”
