Philly Families Asked to Open Homes for Pope’s Visit
Watch out Philly: The city’s going to get very snug in September.
The World Meeting of Families, which will be attended by Pope Francis, is already filling area hotels. So officials hope that Philly families — up to 10,000 of them — will host visitors during the event.
To help accommodate the expected crowds, officials hope more than 10,000 families will volunteer to host visitors in their spare bedrooms.
So far, more than 100 families have registered to welcome guests through the company Homestay, which is coordinating the effort.
More than 1.5 million pilgrims are expected for the pope’s two public appearances.
