News From Philadelphia FIGHT: World AIDS Day Prayer Breakfast on Monday, Y-HEP Staffer Named to POZ 100 List

There’s a double dose of exciting news coming out of Philadelphia FIGHT, the comprehensive AIDS service organization that provides a variety of healthcare and educational services throughout our region.

To start, they’ll be hosting the World AIDS Day Prayer Breakfast this Monday, December 1 at the DoubleTree by Hilton, located at 237 S. Broad Street. The ceremony, which features Bishop Ernest McNear, starts at 8 AM. Philadelphia FIGHT describes the event as follows:

“People of faith and faith-based organizations have been at the forefront of the response to HIV and AIDS since the early 1980s, by engaging in practical health care, social and emotional support, pastoral care and advocacy with and for those living with the virus, to eliminate stigma and discrimination and to promote access to treatment for all those living with HIV. Each year on World AIDS Day (December 1st), Philadelphia’s faith community comes together at the Prayer Breakfast to lift up hope and healing for those who are living with HIV/AIDS. At the event, over 250 people will remember those who have passed and those who are still with us and also recommit to standing with our sisters and brothers in faith, in activism, in reducing stigma, and in enduring love.”

Members of the Philadelphia FIGHT Gospel Choir and the VOICES of Philadelphia FIGHT Choral Ensemble will perform uplifting numbers throughout the breakfast.

Antonio Boone

Also in FIGHT news, Antonio Boone, a staffer at FIGHT’s Y-Hep youth program, has been named to the fifth annual POZ 100 list,

which celebrates youth empowerment. Boone, who was diagnosed with HIV as a junior in college, has become a major local youth advocate in the fight against HIV, with a focus on education and advocacy.
