WATCH: Philly LGBT Youth “Shake It Off” In “It Gets Better” Video

“Some people will do everything in their power to make you feel like you are worthless, like you are helpless, and like you are alone. We are here to remind you that not one of those things is true.”

So begins the Youth Health Empowerment Project (Y-HEP)‘s uplifting, make-you-want-to-boogie video that was made during last week’s “It Gets Better Project” residency at the Kimmel Center.

The rest is just an inspiring good time, with youth from the Philadelphia FIGHT program dancing and voguing all around the city to Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off.” An apt song in a video that aims to convey the message to keep your head up; that even if it doesn’t seem like it now, it will get better. “We can make it better now,” the video reads. “We choose now. We find new family. We create community. We make a home for ourselves in the world.”

I’m getting chills just writing that. But wait till you watch it. The video’s pure sunshine, a guaranteed cure to whatever’s ailing you. Keep it in your arsenal for the next time you’re having a blah day, or just a reminder that no matter how dark it gets, somebody out there has your back.
