The incident happened Saturday evening at 28th and Tasker, in Grays Ferry. Chambers was watching TV at a nearby location when he heard Officer Mark Kimsey’s car collide with a black pickup.
That’s when Joe says he ran to the injured officer who was stuck in the burning car.
“He was in shock a lot. He couldn’t feel his legs. He couldn’t move,” he explained. “His door was like locked shut and it wouldn’t open and there was people standing by watching, and I yelled over for someone to come help me because we had to get him out through the window.”
Dante Johnson also jumped in.
“We pulled the cop to the side. As we pulled the cop to the side he was like, ‘Yeah I’m OK. Thank you, guys,” said Dante.
Chambers happens to be a volunteer firefighter in Ridley Park. Kimsey is expected to return to work soon.
