Weekend Roundup: Gay Halloween Parties Begin, Sword Fights, and An Especially Busy Sunday Funday
What's going down in gay Philly this weekend.
FRIDAY
Philly party producer Peter Sterling gets the gay Halloween juices flowing early with his annual Halloween Ball. The fest takes over three ballrooms in the Doubletree Hotel—and some of your first peeks at what folks are wearing this year. Check out scenes from last year’s bash here.
- The Greater Philadelphia Flag Football League (GPFFL) hosts a Halloween gathering of its own, at the William Way Center. Themed “Animation Domination,” the groups asks guests to come dressed as their favorite cartoon characters. Proceeds benefit GPFFL and ActionAIDS.
- Stimulus hosts its annual Halloween event, Mischief and Mayhem, with a handful of Gayborhood DJs and “skimpy French maid outfits” galore.
- Some of Philly’s drag queens from waaay back, Brittany Lynn, Aeryanah Von Moi, Marissa K Devine, Lisa Thompson, and TheGoddess Isis, are hosting a classic house-diva dance night like only they could.
- What’s sexier than a sword fight? Throw on your hottest armor and wave that epee around at the latest NSFW Dance Party, themed “Joust.”
SATURDAY
A good toosh is a terrible thing to waste. Keep it in shape for winter at The Market and Shops at Comcast Center’s #BootyBootCamp.
- Slip into your suits and cocktails dresses for William Way Center’s annual Indigo Ball fundraiser, taking place at the elegant Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.
- Miss Richfield 1981 is coming to town to hostess Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus’s third annual Fall Ball.
- Not in the mood for all those fancy balls? Bring your inner frat bro to Tabu for the new monthly gathering Kegstand, hosted by new Philly gay party producers SevenEight Entertainment.
- DJ Scopitone spins all your favorite Lynchian tunes at Venture Inn’s David Lynch Dance Party.
SUNDAY
- William Way’s new umbrella LGBT sports organization OPAL is hosting Sunday Funday OUT, a big ol’ gay field day for LGBT athletes and those who just feel like playing with balls that afternoon. There will be everything from kickball to softball to soccer taking place at FDR Park. Hut-hut!
- Itching to get out of town for the night? Philly drag momma Brittany Lynn is hosting the first-ever Big Gay Masquerade Ball at Atlantic City’s Boogie Nights club.
- You don’t want to miss this: Martha Graham Cracker performs her first full show at Bob and Barbara’s! Martha and Citywides? Is there a better combo?
