Weekend Roundup: Take a Gay Ghost Tour, Halloween Drag at Voyeur, Circus of the Stars and More
FRIDAY
Qventures is taking guests on a ghost tour through Old City. The guided walk promises a 90-minute candle-lit stroll through graveyards, haunted houses and dark alleys that ends at City Tavern for some drinks. First person to have a ghost pinch them in the butt wins!
- World Ukelele Champion—and amazing froyo slinger at Igloo Frozen Yogurt—Eric Jaffe is hosting the Gayborhood’s only all-live-singing cabaret at Tavern On Camac. His guests this evening include vocalist and America’s Next Top Model‘s Cory Wade, Drag Wars 4 winner Pissi Myles and Songbird Cycle 1 winner Jo Stones. Not too shabby huh?
- Tabu is hosting talent competition Circus of the Stars. Judges, like the high-larious Brittany Lynn, will award $100 to the evenings best performer, a cast of characters that includes magicians, comedians, singers, and maybe a meep or two.
- If you’re wanting to get your dance on later, head to Voyeur to hear electro-pop princess Anna Lunoe. Get there early for an opening set by Factory Girls DJs Katie K Rex, Suga Shay, and Yolo Ono. Listen before you go: “Breathe.”
SATURDAY
Looking for something a little different to keep you entertained Saturday afternoon? Koresh Dance Company is hosting a free class day, where all its regularly scheduled classes cost zilch. Choose from everything from ballet and hip-hop to modern jazz and Latin fusion. Ole!
- For families or those who deal with LGBT youth: There will be a free Family Resilience Conference at Saint Joe’s University Saturday morning. Themed “Accepting and Supporting Our Children’s Differences,” the conference will feature a special workshop for LGBT individuals, families and friends.
- Halloween and drag are a perfect pairing, and you’ll find an abundance of both at Scream Queen at Voyeur. Liberty City King’s Lascivious Jane will host this evening of fright-forward performances by The Goddess Isis, Icon Ebony-Fierce, Sinnamon and more.
Queens from the Miss Fancy Drag Brigade—the ladies who march along with the Mummers on New Year’s Day—are hosting a show and live auction at Tabu to raise money for 2015’s sashay up Broad Street. Among the evening’s festivities will be a runway show of designs by last year’s Miss Fancy Brigade Morgan Wells.
- Take a trip out of the Gayborhood for Aurora Whorealis’s Queen, an evening of drag, burlesque and—you don’t hear this very often at 10 p.m. on a Saturday—brunch. Sip on classic brunch fare (read: mimosas) while watching performances by Bev, Iris Spectre, and powerhouse singer Larisa Bunch.
SUNDAY
- Don’t even bother getting dressed for this weekend’s drag brunch at Tabu, themed “Housecoat and Curlers.” The early-bird drag shenanigans will see performances by the likes of Brittany Lynn, Crystal Electra and Maria Top Cat. Meow.
