Taney Dragons Fall at Little League World Series
The Taney Dragons were eliminated from the Little League World Series in a 6-5 loss to Chicago’s Jackie Robinson West team Thursday night. Taney, the only Philadelphia team to ever qualify for the LLWS, had the tying run on third in the bottom of the final inning but came up just short.
The Dragons got off to a good start: A Jack Rice single in the top of the first plated Jared Sprague-Lott and Zion Spearman for an early 2-0 lead.
Chicago rallied for 6 runs over the next two innings — but wouldn’t score again. Taney began to chip into Jackie Robinson West’s lead.
Zion Spearman — who went 7-for-11 with 4 RBI and 6 runs in the Little League World Series — drove in two runs in the fourth to cut the deficit to 6-4.
In the fifth, Taney cut the deficit to one run on a Kai Cummings solo home run that went to deep, deep center field.
The Dragons, though, couldn’t get that last run in. But don’t fret: There’s now a petition (on MoveOn!) to throw them a parade. Congrats, kids! Hope they enjoyed the run.
