Chaput: “Good Reason” To Believe Pope Will Visit Philly in 2015

Makes statement at Conference of Catholic Bishops in New Orleans.

“Philadelphia Archbishop Charles Chaput said he has ‘good reason’ to believe Pope Francis will accept an invitation to visit Philadelphia in September 2015 during an international Catholic conference. Archbishop Chaput made the statement at a meeting of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in New Orleans,” the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Chaput apparently did not elaborate. The Vatican doesn’t usually announce travel plan so far in advance, and a visit by Pope Francis has been the subject of mounting speculation for most of the last year.

That visit would come at the World Meeting of Families, which is expected to draw tens of thousands of Catholics to Philadelphia in September 2015.
