*Another* PA Republican Accidentally Admits Voter ID Is Partisan Gimmick

First, there was whoopin’ Mike Turzai, declaring that Voter ID was going to “allow Governor Romney to win the state of Pennsylvania.” Now, there’s thoughtful and serious-looking state GOP chairman Rob Gleason, telling us that the law–which wasn’t even in effect yet–reduced Obama’s margin of victory in 2012.

In other words, Gleason seemed to be arguing that the confusion created by the passing of the legislation discouraged Democrats from voting, something certain Democrats certainly worried would happen. (It’s very unlikely the law had much effect at all on the election.) Gleason’s office, meanwhile, “clarified” that Gleason only meant that hordes of fraudent Democratic voters had been deterred from fraudulating. For what it’s worth, the constitutionality of the law is being reviewed by the state Supreme Court this very week, making Gleason’s comments especially silly. Oh, and for obvious reasons, it’s worth keeping in mind that the current composition of the court is 4-3, in favor of the red team. [PA Politics]
