19 Firefighters Killed in Arizona Wildfire

Central Arizona’s ongoing wildfires claimed the lives of 19 firefighters Sunday, eliminating nearly 20 percent of the Prescott Fire Department. All part of the same group, the 19 firefighters killed Sunday were a specially selected and trained outfit used specifically to battle the spread of wildfires through the use of fire barriers. Arizona’s Yarnell Hill fire overtook the group, resulting in the deadliest day for firefighters since 9/11. Currently, Airzona’s wildfires this year stand as the worst wild land fires since 1933, when a blaze in California killed 25 firefighters. A Facebook page now memorializes Prescott’s fallen firefighters. [CNN]
