Philly’s First Masturbate-a-Thon Kicks Off Tomorrow [Updated]
Dining Out for Life. GayBINGO!. Fashion’s Night Out. It’s a beautiful thing when our favorite pastimes also provide us an outlet to be charitable. And in this day and age it seems like the sky really is the limit on the fun, creative ways we can raise money for a good cause. Case in point? Philly’s first-ever Masturbate-a-Thon!
The sex-forward-thinking gals at ScrewSmart and GALAEI’s Pleasure Rush! are buddying up to celebrate National Masturbation Month (aka May, aka most-relaxing month ever) with this fund drive that allows folks to gather sponsors who will pay them for every hour they spend [insert favorite masturbation euphemism here] from May 1-27. All proceeds benefit ScrewSmart and PleasureRush’s work to promote sex education locally. Still sound like a bit of an insane idea? Let GALAEI Executive Director Elica Gonzales explain the history and thinking behind it:
The idea for National Masturbation month came from the good folks at Good Vibes in San Francisco, who, way back in 1995, protested the firing of Dr. Jocelyn Elders, who suggested that masturbation be included as part of comprehensive sexuality education. Masturbation is still seen as taboo so we are hoping that by having folks participate in the Masturbate-a-Thon, that they will help to destigmatize the behavior — and reduce stress and get a glowing complexion all the while.
She’s so silly.
To become a “Hella’bator”, visit this Crowdrise site and set up your profile. Starting tomorrow, you’ll be able to log-in to record your (ahem) activity through journal entries and PG-13 photos. On May 31, the drive will climax with closing bash CREAMIUM!, a “live debaucherous game show/dance party that tests participant’s knowledge of all things sexual.” On that evening, awards will be handed for everything from “most hours spent masturbating” and “longest orgasm” to having the “most creative fantasy.”
Happy self-pleasuring!
UPDATE [5:30 p.m., 3:36 p.m.]: Results of Philly’s first-ever Masturbate-a-Thon. See them here.
