Where (Not!) to Commit a Crime in Philadelphia
Last month, Philadelphia unveiled an enormous, unprecedented data release that documents all the major crimes that have occurred in the city in the last six years. Nifty map included. Now, you might be able to discourage further crime by contributing to this new, crowd-sourced map of surveillance cameras. In other words, if you see a public or private security camera, just pinpoint its location on the map. Potential criminals, upon seeing the map, might think twice before busting into a convenience store, etc. Then again, you might just have the opposite effect, by allowing criminals to better map out their potential misdeeds. Come to think of it, it might not make a difference what you do: only half the city’s cameras work. [Technically Philly]
