Philadelphia Police Department Overhauls Command Structure

Mayor Nutter and Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey held a press conference this afternoon to announce an overhaul to the department’s command structure. There are a lot of chairs moving, and flow charts all over the conference room, but the bottom line is a streamlined command chart: There were nine deputy commissioners; now there will be five. Five of the city’s six police divisions are getting new commanders, as are seven of the city’s 21 police districts. The changes are designed with an eye toward “making the city safer, making the city stronger, and making the city more flexible” in its crime response, Mayor Nutter said. [NBC 10]
