Mike and Marga Make Queer Comedy
Funny people Mike Albo and Marga Gomez will be back in Philly (together this time) for a special show at the Painted Bride – Mike & Marga Make Queer Comedy (Nov. 17). Albo’s known for his satire of everything from celebrity culture to gay life and has been compared to David Sedaris, though we’d argue he looks better in a wig. This Brooklyn denizen’s also written a few novels like The Junket and The Underminer: The Best Friend Who Casually Destroys Your Life – and performs with a comedy troupe called Unitard.
And Gomez (some many remember when she performed during Equality Forum back in the day), has been doing stand-up and writing and performing in plays both in New York and San Francisco – and around the country. Fans have also seen her on HBO’s Comic Relief, Showtime’s Latino Laugh Festival, Comedy Central’s Out There and the PBS series In The Life. And like our editor, she’s also been named one of 2012’s “Women We Love” by GO magazine.
The Painted Bride show is a two-parter featuring monologues from each artists’ arsenal – chock full of anecdotes from both the gay male and lesbian perspective. Will it be funny? Heck yeah. Will it be raunchy? We’re counting on it.
Painted Bride has also partnered with Queer 2 the T on G-Town Radio for a post-show party called Mix n’ Match, which is being billed as both a networking and speed dating event. The even will include eats and drinks and a chance to make new professional contacts or (if you’re really lucky) maybe even a romantic rendezvous.
Mike and Marga Make Queer Comedy, Nov. 17, 8 p.m., Painted Bride Art Center, 230 Vine Street, 215-925-9914.
