Philly Is Becoming Less Affordable for Moderate Earners

Philly is largely considered one of the most affordable metro areas in the country. A new study ranks Philadelphia second most-affordable among the 25 largest metro areas for home-owners and fifth for renters. But, between 2000 and 2010 the cost of housing and transportation has increased by 39 percent, while salaries for moderate-income earners have only been upped 27 percent, which means Philly’s affordability for the folks in the middle is slowly deteriorating.
