WATCH: Voting While Trans

New PSAs come just in time for election season

This year, more than 25,000 trans people could be denied the right to vote. That’s why the National Center for Transgender Equality‘s “Voting While Trans” campaign has been launched to help educate and prepare trans voters on how to be counted in light of the new voter ID laws. And while a Pennsylvania judge just this morning ruled that the voter ID law will be put on hold in the Keystone State for November (a major victory for LGBT voters, says Equality Pennsylvania) the law will go into full effect next year. And in other states around the country, the law will impact voters at the polls.

“New voter ID laws have created costly barriers to voting for many trans people. And much worse, the debate about voter ID laws have made even the idea of voting harder so many of us may feel discouraged from even trying to vote on election day,” says NCTE Executive Director Mara Keisling. “Our message is – don’t let them scare you into giving up your vote.”
