Tax Burden Lightens for Philly’s City Dwellers

A Pew Charitable Trusts report shows that the tax burden facing Philly’s city dwellers has decreased significantly since 2000. The report also indicates that people who live in the ‘burbs face a higher tax burden than they did 12 years ago. These changes mean that people who live in neighboring counties and commute to the city for work actually pay more in taxes than folks who live and work in the city.

The study found that the heftiest tax burdens are borne by suburban commuters, who pay higher property taxes where they live and get hit up by Philadelphia’s wage tax.
