Montgomery County Is the Most Generous in Pennsylvania

Montco = Most Generous County. Montgomery County residents donated $650.6 million to charity in 2008 (the most recent year that the statistics are available). That’s good for nearly five percent of the income in the county and makes Montco the most generous county in Pennsylvania, 36th most generous nationally. [Philanthropy]

Nick Foles! Michael Vick left last night’s preseason game with a rib injury. X-rays were negative, but he’ll undergo a CT scan and an MRI today. In Vick’s absence, Nick Foles went 18-for-28 for 217, two scores and an interception. Andy Reid and Cullen Jenkins had some words. The Eagles won, 27-17.

Philly’s Made in America Fortress. Remember when it was announced that you’d have to pay for a concert on the Parkway? Everyone was curious about how the city planned to keep people without tickets from enjoying a concert on the street. Welp, the city’s released its plan and it includes two, eight-foot high fences, security personnel on both sides, and signs to warn that any attempt to climb the fence(s) will result in arrest. Revel Wants to Bum $100M. The struggling casino that was supposed to help revive Atlantic City has asked for an additional $100 million to help keep it afloat through 2013. Governor Chris Christie had already steered some $300 million in state funding toward the project. Revel expects to get about $70 million of the request, which it will need to avoid defaulting on its loans. [Inquirer]

Governor Christie’s Senate Race. New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has his work cut out for him as he works to support his friend’s bid for the U.S. Senate. Christie introduced Joe Kyrillos to Kyrillos’s future wife. Now, he’s stumping to help his buddy unseat Jersey’s junior senator. [Wall Street Journal]

Hartnell Inks Six-Year Extension. Scott Hartnell has signed a contract extension that will keep him in orange and black for an additional six years. The deal is reportedly worth more than $28 million. [Inquirer]

Phils Smoke the Reds. The Phils trounced the Reds with a 12-run effort thanks to home runs from Howard, Mayberry and Kratz. Domonic Brown offered a key double to help overcome Halladay’s early struggles on the mound. [Phillies]

Fire Evacuates Building in University City. A seven-story apartment building at 38th and Chestnut was evacuated on Monday night after a fire broke out. One person was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and, eventually, most residents were allowed back into their apartments. [NBC Philadelphia]
