Limerick Nuclear Power Plant Reactor Shut Down

A reactor at Montgomery County’s Limerick Nuclear Power Plant was shut down manually on Wednesday. There was reportedly an electrical problem caused by a fault in a transformer, which prompted the manual shutdown. Nuclear emergencies are categorized in four levels and the incident on Wednesday was classified as an “Unusual Event,” the lowest of the four. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has resident inspectors gathering information at the plant, but says that there does not appear to be any further complications. [6 ABC]
