NJ Assembly to Vote on Decriminalization of Marijuana

The New Jersey state Assembly is set to vote on a bill that would decriminalize possession of less than 15 grams of marijuana. Instead of up to six months in jail and a $1,000 fine, violators would be issued a $150 fine for a first offense, $200 fine for a second offense, and $500 for a third offense. People under 21 and adults guilty of a third offense would also have to attend a drug education program. Paraphernalia possession would carry an additional fine. The bill has bipartisan support, but Governor Christie has vowed to veto the measure if it passes. We’re guessing NJ Weedman has his fingers crossed. [NJ.com]
