Jury Reaches Verdict in Priest Abuse Trial [UPDATE]

The jury in the trial of Monsignor William Lynn and Rev. James Brennan have been deliberating for 13 days. On Wednesday, they told a judge that they had deadlocked on four of the five charges in the case. Judge M. Teresa Sarmina gave the jurors a “Spencer charge” and told them to continue discussing the trial. Sarmina’s pep talk seems to have done the trick as the jury has reached a verdict in the case. The verdict is expected to be read when court reconvenes at 2 p.m. [6 ABC]

UPDATE: Monsignor William Lynn has been found guilty on one count of endangering the welfare of a child. He was found not guilty on the other count of endangering the welfare of a child and not guilty on the conspiracy charge. The jury came back hung on both counts against Rev. James Brennan. The judge declared a mistrial on both of the counts against Brennan.

UPDATE: Monsignor William Lynn has been taken into custody. He faces up to seven years in prison. The gag order was lifted and Philadelphia District Attorney Seth Williams has called a 3:30 p.m. press conference.
