Best of the Main Line
EDITOR’S NOTE: In honor of Philadelphia magazine’s August Best of Philly issue, we asked Philly Post contributors to name their own personal Bests of Philly.
Best New Frozen Yogurt Joint: Yapple Yogurt in Wynnewood
Not only is the yogurt great, so are the toppings! An extra added plus is that if you are into the see and be seen world, this is the place to go.
Best Mani/Pedi: Olive Nails in Ardmore
They are reasonably priced, nice and they honor appointments. Very clean, too.
Best Shoe Repair: Rossi Shoe Service in Ardmore
These guys have it down to a science. They can even put a red sole overlay on your Louboutin shoes so that the signiture red bottom never chips away!
Best Place to Buy Jeans: Skirt in Bryn Mawr
They have all the newest styles that you’d see in LA and NY and amazing shirts to go with your expensive jeans. Bring your credit card.
Best Place to Buy Affordable Date Clothes: Elizabeth Maar in Haverford
From shirts to shorts to dresses, they have it all—including boy shorts for when you’re ready for some hanky panky.
Best Place for a Private Party: Chops in Bala Cynwyd
There are two private rooms in the back that are perfect for gatherings of 15 to 30 people. The food is great, the waitstaff is friendly, and best of all, the valet is free.
Best Restaurant for Friday Night Break From the Kids: Al Dar in Merion
Get the mazza as an appetizer, moussaka and a cosmo and you will be relaxed in no time.
Best Hair Salon: Salon Antoine in Haverford
The stylists and colorists are top notch while the price and attitude are down to earth. This salon is a true find on the Main Line. You can also shop next door at Elizabeth Maar and lunch across the way at Du Jour.
Best Take Out Chinese Food: Chun Hing, just across City Ave.
Although technically not on the Main Line, it is well worth stopping by.
Best Neighborhood Bar: The Pub of Penn Valley in Narberth
This bar serves up a surprisingly gourmet menu. You can either go old-school bar food with a hot roast beef sandwich or you can go upscale with their roast rack of lamb. Naturally, the Phillies are on the screen to round out the experience.
Best Place for Custom Invitations: Pen and Paper in Bryn Mawr
Not only do they offer the finest selection of invitations, but Linda is a true pro and can deal with Main Line women like no other.
Best Place to Buy Kid’s Clothing: My Kid’s Korner in Narberth
This charming boutique will outfit your princess from head to toe for school, special occasions and just hanging out.
Best Place to Take a Date…
I must defer to Philly Mag since ,without a doubt, the best date places are in town. The Main Line is lacking upscale hip restaurants where you can hear yourself think. If I must give it to one establishment, I recommend White Dog in Wayne. The food is outstanding and the atmosphere is quaint. A bit pricey, but worth it on many levels.
