Former CHOP Lawyer Indicted For Embezzling $1.7 Million

White-collar crime reaches a new low when a Malvern man steals money from kids with cancer

Federal prosecutors indicted Roosevelt Hairston Jr. of Malvern on charges of money laundering. Hairston—former general counsel for CHOP—is said to have embezzled $1.7 million from the facility between 1999 and last Valentine’s Day. Hairston allegedly used to the funds to purchase, among other things, luxury cars and a yacht with a captain. Pillaging millions of dollars from pediatric cancer patients to play skipper doesn’t sound much like brotherly love to the Scoop. [Inquirer]
