Former PA Senator Rick Santorum Opposes Gay Marriage and Adoption

Could this guy be the next president?

Pennsylvania’s former Republican Senator Rick Santorum – whose name was heavily spoofed by gay sex columnist Dan Savage (Google it) – recently spoke with Terry Jeffrey of CNS News about same-sex marriage and gay adoption. Santorum, an unabashed conservative who was behind a push to teach Creationism in schools and has referred to the war in Iraq as “a war with Islamic fascists,” recently admitted that he opposes legalizing gay marriage and adoption in the U.S., saying they go against the “natural” law.

It isn’t the first time that the conservative Senator has attacked gay and lesbian rights. In an interview with the Associated Press in 2003, he referred to pedophile priests as homosexuals, and said, “whether it’s polygamy, whether it’s adultery, whether it’s sodomy, all of those things are antithetical to a healthy, stabile, traditional family.”

Santorum has also said that marriage should be between a man and woman “because society is based on one thing: that society is based on the future of the society. And that’s what? Children.” He went on to compare homosexuality to “man on child” and “man on dog” in the much maligned interview.

Now there’s talk Santorum may consider a run for president next year. He was defeated in Pennsylvania in 2006 by Democratic candidate Bob Casey, Jr., in what was the largest margin of defeat for an incumbent Senator since 1980. He currently works at a law firm with Pittsburgh and D.C. offices, serves as senior fellow with the Ethics and Public Policy Center in Washington D.C., and is a regular contributor to the Fox News channel.

Here’s a clip of the recent interview in which Santorum says gays “defy nature” on Right Wing Watch:
