Honeymoon Destination: St. Kitts
WHERE TO STAY Located in the Frigate Bay area, the St. Kitts Marriott Resort & Royal Beach Casino is the largest top-notch, full-service resort on the island (stkittsmarriott.com). What you get: a spa, an 18-hole course, a casino, 450 guest rooms and suites, and a seemingly endless array of restaurants, lounges and bars. Plus, it all sits on pristine Atlantic Beach—a 10-minute walk from where the Atlantic meets the Caribbean.
WHAT TO PACK Dress is informal, even at the elegant Marriott. You may want to dress up a bit for a nice dinner—but nothing more than a cotton dress for you and slacks and polo for him. Don’t forget loose-fitting, breathable clothes and hiking boots or sneaks for adventure days.
BEST TIMES TO GO With weather that’s pretty much always perfect, the only real consideration is travel season: From June to August, travel to the island is at its lightest—and the beaches are least crowded.
NEWLYWED NEWS The couples’ room at the Marriott’s Emerald Mist Spa—with private Jacuzzi and dual-head shower—is a must after a couples’ Kittitian massage, an island specialty designed to relax and improve circulation with long strokes. Also, ask about the Escape! Attraction Package (starting at $228 per room per night), which includes an island tour, entrance to Brimstone Hill, credit toward your adventures and daily breakfast.
GETTING THERE There are no direct flights from Philly, but with a quick layover in Miami or San Juan, the trip takes about six hours total. Arrange for transportation with the resort, just ten minutes from the airport, which will also call car services for your island adventures. Avoid renting a car—driving on the left-hand side is more stress than it’s worth.
