What to watch tonight
Rent It: The Messenger (R, 2009). This war movie succeeds because of its limited focus—servicemen tasked with notifying next of kin whose loved one has died. It’s a harrowing, aching film with powerfully quiet turns from Ben Foster and Oscar-nominee Woody Harrelson. My Grade: B.
Queue It: In Bruges (R, 2008). A startlingly violent look at hitmen hiding out in the picturesque Bruges. The movie is brutally funny, but see it for the phenomenal performances from Ralph Fiennes and Golden Globe-winning Colin Farrell. My Grade: A-
