Take Me Out To the Refreshment Stand
The atmosphere isn’t the only thing that’s gotten way better since the Phils ditched the Vet for CBP. Our crackerjack food editor serves an up-to-the-last-out guide to the tastiest ballpark eats.
Alley Grill
What started as a tent stand last year now has a permanent home, with a charcoal grill serving up popular beef and Southwest black bean burgers and yummy, new-this-year Turkey Hill milkshakes.
Find it: Left field plaza, behind Harry the K’s.
Brewerytown
CBP has more than 30 types of craft beer, many of them of the local variety (take that, Coors Field!), like Yards, Tröegs and Victory.
Find it: Sections 113, 139, Ashburn Alley, plus 204, 208, 323 and 329.
Bull’s BBQ
The brainchild of Greg “The Bull” Luzinski (who shows up occasionally to serve grub and sign autographs), the biggest grill in all of MLB cooks up excellent barbecue. Besides pulled pork, ribs and chicken, 2010 will see the return of the fan-favorite turkey leg.
Find it: The right-field side of Ashburn Alley, plus in 509 for the Bull’s BBQ Express.
Chickie’s & Pete’s
The lines here can be long, but the crab fries are worth it. Fans voted the melted white cheese sauce and orange fingers their favorite concession snack last year. Insider tip: Ashburn Alley opens more than two hours before game time, so to get the best eats sans lines, go early, and eat while taking in batting practice.
Find it: Ashburn Alley (or on the Club Level, if you have a Hall of Fame Club ticket).
Cobblestone Grill
There’s no need to wait in run-missing lines at Tony Luke’s and Campo’s to get your cheese-steak on. The offerings chopped up here by well-trained staffers have just as much Whiz-meat-and-roll authenticity as those at the big names.
Find it: Section 109, plus 207.
Hatfield Grill
The Hatfield Italian sausage and pepper sandwich is cooked right in front of you, never wrapped, and served open-face. It was so popular in 2009 that it’s on offer all around the stadium this year.
Find it: Sections 120, 135, Ashburn Alley, plus 208, 414, 425, 431, 614, 625 and 627.
Old City Creamery
Turkey Hill ice cream in fun flavors (Moose Tracks!), in a cone or à la mini-helmet.
Find it: Sections 110, 126, 137, Ashburn Alley, plus 204, 321 and 330.
The Schmitter
Self-explanatory awesomeness — you don’t know? Shame on you. A cheesesteak on a kaiser roll, with salami, onions, tomato and a special sauce — and just as good as the original at McNally’s in Chestnut Hill.
Find it: Section 141.
South Philadelphia Market
Because herbivores shouldn’t have to strike out, the delish veggie hot dog has made this stand — which also has classic ballpark eats — a destination. Fun fact: CBP has won PETA’s “Top Vegetarian-Friendly Ballpark” for the past three years.
Find it: The Market is all over the stadium; you can get the veggie dog at its locations in -Sections 128 and 318.
Tony Luke’s
For cheesesteaks and those chin-dripping roast pork sandwiches with sharp prov and broccoli rabe.
Find it: Ashburn Alley.
Extra Inning:
Got a peanut allergy? This year, pistachios are being sold at select goober stands. Also this season, look for sweet-and-salty kettle corn, as well as traditional popcorn, in life-size souvenir helmets.
