Pulse: Retail Report: Now Open: Moving Home

There’s a lot you can do with an extra 800 square feet of space. Which is why when Jay Lamancuso decided to move the Pine Street location of his gift/accessory boutique Hello World two blocks east, he was able to rethink its concept. Now, this new store (a Hello World still remains near Rittenhouse) is dubbed Hello Home, and that extra space is filled with global, contemporary and original mid-century furniture, glassware, lamps, and vividly patterned rugs from famed dressmaker Trina Turk. (Hello World devotees east of Broad, don’t fret; you’ll still find bags, greeting cards and baubles.) Look for another new twist: Jay has created his own eco/fair trade/sustainability grading system, and rates and tags each item based on it. Hello goodness!

Pakistan-born Zahra Saeed’s life has taken some crazy twists and turns (an arranged marriage is one of them), but we’re glad she wound up here. Last month the Moorestown resident’s dream came true when her eponymous Walnut Street store opened, carrying the very first collection she’s designed. Her curve-hugging clothes range from dresses with couture touches like sculptural collars and ruffled necks to easy-to-toss-on flowered skirts. We know it’s sooo ’90s, but we can’t resist: You go, girl!
