Mini-indulgences come to Chestnut Hill

We didn’t think it was possible for BE Monograms — the Chestnut Hill gift boutique — to be any sweeter. But then it filled a craving we didn’t even know we had by converting its Germantown Ave-facing vestibule into a mini-shop called Eye Candy, a fitting moniker for Lucite shelves of jars stuffed with a colorful wonderland of confections. The classics (jawbreakers, chocolate-covered pretzels) are joined by the quirky (gummy Army men, licorice Scotty dogs) and the classy (gourmet hot chocolate), all of which can be purchased by the half-pound or in prefab gift sets. Seasonal selections (can’t wait for V-Day!) and generous samples create a steady stream of regulars. 8127 Germantown Avenue, Chestnut Hill, 215-247-8787, eyecandyconfections.com.

Also just opened: Besides its eponymous born-in-Philly, starving-artist-friendly t-shirt line, Old City’s Art in the Age stocks minimalist apparel it promises you won’t find anywhere else around here: men’s hooded jackets from NSF, leggings from Effie’s Heart, coffee-table books, and a smattering of scents from CB Perfumes, all in a throwback apothecary setting. 116 North 3rd Street, 215-922-2600, artintheage.com.
