Health: Starbucks + Protein = A Smarter Latte

Forget the extra shot of espresso this holiday and ask for protein instead

Nothing says Christmas has arrived more than the holiday cups at Starbucks. But as tasty as a Peppermint Mocha may be, it’s certainly not diet friendly — a medium packs a whopping 400 calories and 50 grams of sugar — and shouldn’t be a regular order. However, Starbucks has heard the cry of those seeking a healthier alternative and now offers drinkers the option of adding a scoop of protein powder to their favorite beverages. “Starbucks remains committed to offering customers innovative products, including options that are nutritious and give them energy to make the most of their day,” says a representative on behalf of Starbucks.

A single shot will add 30 calories, about 6 grams of protein, 1 gram of soluble fiber, and zero sugar or artificial sweeteners. So make that $4 cup worthwhile and order that skinny vanilla latte with a scoop of protein. The combo of protein and fiber will help to fill you up and keep you going, whether you’re battling the crowds at the mall or rigging up those lights.
