Taste: A Rose Is a Rose

Unless it’s carved from a watermelon

Another unique storefront has popped up near 13th and Sansom, a corner already abuzz with an eclectic mix of tenants (foodie destinations Lolita, El Vez and Capogiro, and retailers Matthew Izzo and Open House). Incredibly Edible Delites is a gourmet-store-meets-florist concept best known for its signature “Floral Fruit Design,” a bonanza of honeydew, cantaloupe, pineapple, strawberries, kiwis and grapes arranged just like a bouquet of flowers. The company, started in 1984, is based in Broomall and boasts 34 franchises across the country, but it wasn’t until this past fall that owners Susan Ellman and Ellen Davis decided to open a Center City shop. “It’s being in touch with city-dwellers and providing them with our service,” says Ellman. That includes stocking the Linc’s 171 suites for the Eagles’ home opener this year with “Touchdown” baskets ($55): floral-like arrangements of cantaloupe, kiwis, strawberries, grapes and melon in ceramic football holders.
