Philly … for Now
We’ve had our eye on Philly-based clothing line Walish Gooshe since last summer’s debut, and our love grew fonder with his newest ready-to-wear line. Mostly because it’s exactly what we need right now: Conservative, office-friendly looks, with a little something special. That something special is designer Gregory Taylor’s affection for accoutrements, which you’ll see in the oversized, brushed- gold buttons on his shiny, wide-cuff take on the shirtdress and the artistic, below-the-bust pleating on his grey button-down shirts. “I wanted to do something casual that the average woman could wear to work and still look good. Well, the average fashionable woman,” Taylor says. And this Philly transplant (who studied at the Art Institute of Philadelphia) credits Philly’s small, but receptive, up-and-coming market as his motivator. Sadly, he won’t be our secret for long: Talks with Saks are underway and soon his goods will be gracing the racks at L.A.’s Chic Bella, a former Philly boutique who is moving their store (and taking Taylor’s designs) to the West Coast.
