That’s right: West Philly resident Wendell Holland is a Penn Law grad, founder of furniture company Beve Unlimited, and the winner of last spring’s Survivor: Ghost Island. (Honestly, what can’t this man do?) Now that he’s back in town, we got the scoop on all the stuff he can’t live without.
Favorite Things
Treasured items: Urban Outfitters pocket square and a friend’s ring 1. “Another winner gave the ring to me — she wore it the night she won.”
Hobby: Playing pickup basketball at the Palumbo Rec Center in South Philly.
Recent splurge: A Rihanna shower curtain. “Yes, I found an image of Rihanna that I absolutely adore — and had it printed on a shower curtain.”
On my feet: Nike Air VaporMax sneakers 2.
Everyday accessories: “A Tory Burch leather and gold bracelet, and a beaded one from local maker MeikoBeads. And one with the flag of Guyana 3, where my mother’s family is from.”
Grooming essentials: Rugged Evolution Beard Oil
At Home
On my playlist: Leon Bridges, Syd, Chance the Rapper.
Coffee shop: Uncle Bobbie’s Coffee & Books in Germantown. “It’s a positive beacon in the area.”
I collect: Wooden puzzles “On the show, I had to assemble wooden pieces together to win challenges.”
Hair salon: Jackson’s Barber Shop on West Chester Pike. “I’ve gone there my entire life. The barber shop in a black community is a staple.”
Project I’m working on: Beve Unlimited in Manayunk. “We’re a custom furniture shop specializing in reclaimed wood — big, rustic-looking pieces.”
Biggest inspiration: My parents. “My father wasn’t given much, but he had infinite determination. My mother has the biggest heart of anyone I know.”
Out and About
Place to shop: Ardmore Farmers Market in Suburban Square.
Favorite bar: La Peg in Old City.
Guilty pleasure: Lobster roll from Luke’s Lobster in Rittenhouse.
Trip I take every year: Jamaica. “I volunteer coaching basketball for campers in Treasure Beach with the Philadelphia Men’s Basketball League.”
Next vacation: Brazil in January. “My friend Maud Arnold, a famous tap dancer, invited me to come along.”
Recent accomplishment: Winning Ghost Island. “It was a decade-long dream of mine. My last line of my audition was, ‘If you put me on Survivor, I will win.’ And then I did. I think I could take on the world now. I really think I could do anything.”
