What is your typical process for working with a new client?
We gather as much information from potential clients as possible. It begins with an initial call followed by an in person meeting at their home, their new space or our office to discuss the project, design ideas and identify if we both feel excited after those initial exchanges and that it is a good fit for both. We forward a detailed contract outlining the services we are providing, our working terms and what to expect at each phase of the project.
Once a deposit is received and a contract is signed, the project begins with information gathering, learning about our clients, discovering direction for style, pinpointing the budget, discussing the client's lifestyle, needs for the space/spaces, dreams and wishes, timeline, project structure, trades involved, responsibilities, expectations, schedule, priorities, studying the plans, etc.
Depending on the type of project, Phase I is our survey, design, presentation and pricing phase. Everything is designed, presented, selected, priced and submitted for final decision making. Phase II is our time for procurement and ordering while implementing and coordinating all subcontracted work and attending on going site meetings to insure work is carried out to plan. Phase III is planning and coordinating for the final installations, gathering all items needed for the installation including accessories, artwork and finishing items, and the actual installation and reveal to the client. Lastly, we follow up on anything that is needed.
Being a very visual and observant child, I admired the beautiful homes of friends and family, architecture, unique art and furnishings. At 9, my father had a wonderful designer assist in the selections process and complete interior design of our new home. I went along on a few of the furniture and accessories shopping trips and was given a chance to make some selections of my own. Watching that process unfold and the spectacular final results solidified my desire and goal to be come an interior designer. I never waivered from that goal and have been enjoying a challenging and fulfilling career in the interior design field since 1988 that is exciting and ever changing.
