What is your typical process for working with a new client?

Becoming a respected luxury home builder doesn’t happen by accident. In our case, we startedout with a solid work ethic. Added an appreciation for wood and great design. Multiplied that by fearsome determination, dedication to clients and respect for designers and specialty contractors. When you square the results for identical twins Joe and Tim Ernst, you get Ernst Brothers + Builders, the award-winning custom construction company that builds luxury homes, commercial spaces and exquisite renovations in the Philadelphia region and beyond. Joe and Tim grew up working with wood. Then and now, they enjoy creating with their hands, drawing and designing. Their high-school woodshop creations—Joe’s open roll-top desk and Tim’s grandfathers clock—took second and third place in Stanley Tools National High School Woodworking Competition their senior year. Summer carpentry jobs with general contractors further developed their building skills to carry them well beyond their teen years and their own handcrafted projects. Tim even designed and built high-end furniture for a period of time. At the suggestion of a brother-in-law, Tim and Joe pooled their design, woodworking and building experience and launched Ernst Brothers + Builders in 1985. Soon they were gaining a name as luxury home builders, then expanding their reputation with custom remodeling, historic restoration and commercial construction. As principal project managers, both brothers know all aspects of the construction business, both residential and commercial; both excel in sales, cost estimating, project management and collaborating with architects and other design professionals. With Ernst’s phenomenal growth over the past 10 years requiring a substantial expansion of the company’s staff, Tim and Joe continue to oversee every project the Ernst team undertakes.Managing partner Jake Taylor joined the firm in 2006 as controller before increasing his involvement with the company. His experience working for construction firms, including some Fortune 500 companies, enables Jake to continue overseeing Ernst’s financial activity, business development and marketing. All three are creative, enthusiastic and dedicated to delivering results that fulfill every client’s vision.

5months ago: I cannot say enough wonderful things about our overall experience with the Ernst Brothers and their incredible team, but I will certainly try!!! In a nutshell, they are the BEST in this business. In a class of their own. Second to none. You can stop reading here if you‘d like and take this as your cue to hire them, or read on for all the reasons why you should.

We found Ernst Brothers and Builders through our fabulous kitchen designers — Bluebell Kitchens (another amazing company!). At that point, we had met with several other contractors and we weren’t crazy about any of them. From our first meeting with Joe and Tim, they filled us with confidence and a steady, “we got this” vibe that made us feel like we were in solid and capable hands.

First and foremost, they communicate. Imagine that! LOL! They listen. They anticipate challenges. They troubleshoot on the fly. They are simultaneously focused on the big picture as well as the teeny-tiny details. (And let’s be real…it’s ALL in the details). They are obsessed with quality and craftsmanship. They SHOW UP when they say they’re going to be there, and they CLEAN the job site before they leave each day. Basically, they say what they’re going to do, and then they get on and do it with great care. It’s all pretty next-level. It also helps that everyone is so nice! Special mention to field managers, John Chirico, Mike Troyan and the team of artisans (like Glenn Hendrickson) who made our home my most favorite place to be!

Having said all of this, Ernst is more expensive than the competition. But…you get what you pay for, and I’ve never paid less and gotten more. Especially when it comes to home renovation! Our project was a big one, and we wanted to do it properly on the first try. It should also be said that no project is without challenges. But when issues invariably arose, Ernst didn’t disappear into the night. They faced things head-on and helped us find solutions.

My fear about leaving them a great review is that they will be too busy for us when we decide to do our next home project! But when that time comes, Ernst Brothers and Bluebell Kitchens will be the very first people we call! To consider anyone else would simply be absurd.

11 months ago: Ernst Bros did a masterful job with our office addition. It took a lot of planning and on the job adjustments and they made the new and the old look seamless. The crew were all true craftsmans, not just builders.
