Queer at FringeArts Fest: Growing Into My Beard

Each day this week, G Philly will be highlighting a different LGBTQ-themed show that is featured at this year’s FringeArts Festival. Get to know the artists who are bringing their works to the festival, and learn about what makes their productions unique.
Bay Bryan is a rather cute Scottish-trained singer-songwriter who is bringing his queer take on coming out as “ginger” to Philly during the upcoming FringeArts Festival. And if that’s not intriguing enough, the performer is giving his show, titled Growing Into My Beard, a mini-tour of sorts around the city, playing at some very familiar gay venues.
Bryan’s performance is autobiographical comedy which “fuses live music and personal narrative into a dreamy blend of storytelling and performance art, with just a dash of drag.” He’s recently played the Horse Trade Theater’s Queerly Festival and the Minnesota Fringe before heading here to Philly, and producers claim that the show is “for anyone who has ever felt, even a little bit, queer at heart.”
Growing Into My Beard will play four different venues from September 3 through the 18, making it a quite a unique touring engagement: Tabu (200 South 12th Street), 954 Dance Movement Collective (954 North 8th Street), Philly AIDS Thrift (710 South 5th Street) and the William Way Community Center (1315 Spruce Street).
