Every hump day a Philly person shares their local picks for Woman Crush Wednesday. Today, Chrissy Tashjian, a guitarist in bands Thin Lips and The Goodbye Party.

Chrissy Tashjian

My name is Chrissy Tashjian. I'm a West Philadelphia resident deep lez queerdo, carpenter, musician, and an Aquarius. These incredible and inspiring women are my local picks for WCW!

Margaux Benton

Margaux is one of my dearest friends. What a perfect weirdo! She is a practicing witch and an incredibly talented tarot reader. She is a self-identified transexual Courtney Love/Jessica Lange hybrid. She's written several 'zines about her experience as a queer trans woman, and is an incredible storyteller. She's always on-the-go, and spends a lot of her time in the country roaming around in the woods in Tennessee.

Lily Latini

Lily is a Light (yes, with a capital L). We've only just met and I'm in love! She recently moved back to Philly from Asheville, North Carolina and is a published writer. She writes super-femme queer poetry about friendship and sex. She is currently writing a body of work set to be published in June. Spoiler alert: She may do a book tour this summer for her latest work.

Kate Gallagher

How does one even begin to talk about how amazing Kate Gallagher is?! She is currently writing a collection of short stories about lesbian astronauts she would like to use as a tool to connect with other women dealing with mental health issues. WOW! She writes a lot of the recipes for the popsicles at the Lil' Pop Shop, makes mostly junk food/nature-themed glitter earrings, and hangs out with her dog, Doganne.

Camae Defstar

Camae is a major musical inspiration to me. She never stops, she connects people, and she cares in a big way. She is constantly booking shows, including the ROCKERS!, and playing shows. She has several musical projects including The Mighty Paradocs and Moor Mother Goddess. There is so much life in the punk scene outside of the heteronormative, white, male punk arena that is so pervasive in Philly, and ROCKERS! is one of the best places to catch it.

Kate Jones

Jones is an extremely beloved fixture in the West Philadelphia homo scene. She is a brilliant and kind soul. There is so much I want to say about Kate Jones, but I don't know where to start! She studied architecture, and is an amazing brainiac, but my personal favorite parts about her are her antics and party attitude.

Nolita Selector

After Make Yr Break ended, the Philly queer party scene was missing something. There were some really rad house parties and the occasional good time, but there was no reoccurring queer party until DJ Nolita Selector moved to Philly from Brooklyn a few years ago. She teamed up with international DJ Precolumbian, and together they created Cutn Paste, a monthly party every First Friday at the Bike Stop. Then, Nolita created her own monthly party, Sissy Hop, at the Dolphin and has recently become the party coordinator for The Bar(n). Thank you, thank you!
