Tabu is about to get a run for its money, apparently. Philly.com reports that Boxers NYC, a gay bar with locations in Chelsea and Hell’s Kitchen, is opening at the old Ritz Camera store at 1330 Walnut St. in the Gayborhood. (Funny side note: That’s right next to Nuts to You.)

The article reports that the entrepreneurs (Bob Fluet and Robert Hynds) chose to open the franchise in Philly after coming to play in the city’s gay softball leagues. There’s not a lot of information about the bar yet, except that the space is 2,040 square feet on the first floor, and there’s a 620-square-foot mezzanine, which sounds like an amazing stage for a drag queen — especially if it overlooks the main level. If the spot stays true to its original locations, it will include a brick pizza oven, beer on tap and a plethora of TVs and pool tables. Philly.com also notes shirtless, boxer-wearing bartenders, hence the photo above.

As of now there’s no specific opening date, but the owners hope to get it running in late-summer. Stay tuned to G Philly for updates.
