Teacher Fired From Holy Ghost Gets Married [UPDATED]

Just a quick, uplifting update about Michael Griffin, the teacher who was fired from Holy Ghost Prep after telling the principal he was going to apply for a marriage license to marry his partner Vin. I’m happy to report that the aforementioned bad news didn’t spoil his plans to tie the knot. This morning he posted a photo of a wedding cake emblazoned with the phrase “Congratulations Vin and Mike.” His adjoining update was, “As of last night, it’s official!”

Congrats, Vin and Mike, indeed!

I’ve reached out to Griffin for more details. I’ll update this post as soon as he responds. In the meantime, check out these other good reads from writers at Philly Mag:

UPDATE: [12/20/2013, 1:20 p.m.] I chatted with Griffin this afternoon. He told me that he and Vin were married in a quiet ceremony last night in Mount Holly, N.J. among immediate family. To say he’s been caught up in a media frenzy since news broke about his dismissal is something of an understatement. He says he appreciates the support, but now he wants to focus on finding a full-time job (“I have some resumés out there”) and, of course, reveling in all the fun that comes from being a newlywed. “I’m happy to finally say we’re married,” he told me. “But we want to get back to having a normal life.”
