LGBT Six-Word Memoir of the Day:
D. Bruce Hanes
In partnership with SMITH Magazine’s Six-Word Memoir Project, we asked you to submit your queer life stories—succinctly. Every day until we run out, we will present the most touching, poignant and hilarious entries in meme form. Today, D. Bruce Hanes, the brave Montgomery County register of wills who defied state law this summer by issuing marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
We are fortunate enough to have Hanes as one of the presenters at our Six-Word Memoir Slam on Tue., Oct. 22, where he, along with four other performers, will recite his six-word bio and tell a six-minute story behind it. After reading about Hanes in headlines for the past few months, it will be an honor to have some one-on-one time with the trailblazing ally here in Philly. Who knows, maybe his rebelliousness will rub off on some of the right folks.
We’d love to see you there. To purchase a $10 ticket to the event, click here. And click here to see all our LGBT Six-Word Memoirs of the Day to date.
