On Tuesday, December 17th, Small Oven Pastry Shop and Porcos porchetteria will open at 2204 Washington Avenue. As a refresher, the two concepts come to us from Chad Durkin who helped open Kermit’s Bake Shop in the same location before becoming director of research and product development at Carlo’s Bakery, the pastry shop owned by Cake Boss star Buddy Valastro.

Small Oven Pastry Shop will serve a variety of rotating pastries like eclairs, cream puffs, mousse cakes, tarts, galettes, and cookie sandwiches, all available by the individual piece or by the dozen. Small Oven has a cafe space where guests can sit and enjoy their pastries, as well as a menu of non alcoholic drinks like coffee and tea — but Durkin encourages guests to BYOB. There will also be a couple of salads and sandwiches.

Porcos, which has its own oven, will serve up porchetta sandwiches like the ones Durkin loves from the Ariccia province of Rome. Porchetta is a classic Italian street food made with a deboned pig coated in herbs and savory filling, then rolled and roasted until the outside skin is crisp and the inside is juicy. For sandwiches, it is thinly sliced and served on ciabatta. In addition to porchetta, Porcos will serve a variety of other sandwiches including a Cubano, a vegetarian meatball sub and a steak sandwich.

Guests will order sandwiches from a separate window that is connected to the rest of the space, then take them to go or enjoy them inside the cafe space. Porcos will serve Tuesday through Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. (or until they sell out) and Small Oven Pastry Shop will be open 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Scroll down for both concepts’ full menus.
