After less than a year in the ground floor of the Bok Building, barbecue spot South Philly Smökhaus has closed.

The announcement comes four weeks after owner Eric Daelhousen posted on social media that the shop would take a break for the month of August.

“It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve decided to close the doors of South Philly Smokhaus permanently,” Daelhousen wrote on Instagram yesterday. “A huge thank you to the family, friends and everybody that came and shared a meal at the Smokhaus.”

It’s with a heavy heart that we’ve decided to close the doors of South Philly Smokhaus permanently. A huge thank you to the family, friends and everybody that came and shared a meal at the Smokhaus. We made a lot of friendships, cooked some good food and created a lot of great memories.

South Philly Smökhaus opened last fall on the Dudley Street side of Bok’s ground floor space. In addition to Daelhousen’s smoked offerings like brisket, ribs, and wings, the shop shared space with Passio Prime Meats, a butcher counter operated by Robert Passio of Giunta’s Prime Meats in Reading Terminal Market.

Passio confirmed today that the South Philly butcher counter will also close permanently, as licensing for the space was attached to the barbecue outfit.
