Fishtown Stoner Destination Poe’s Sandwich Joint Burns Out
Pot provocateur turned sandwich artist N.A. Poe announced that the Frankford Avenue walk-up window will cease operations "effective immediately."
With the opening of Poe’s Sandwich Joint in Fishtown back in December, we thought that maybe standup comedian-turned-weed activist-turned-political candidate-turned-pot party host N.A. Poe (government name: Richard Tamaccio Jr.) had settled down for a while. Slinging lovingly-crafted stoner fare from a walk-up window on Frankford Avenue seemed like the perfect (legitimate) business for him to get into, and the unpretentious late-night spot was a welcome addition to Fishtown’s food landscape.
Alas, yesterday — just three days after he and his crew earned a Best of Philly for their funnel cake fries, crushable cheeseburgers, and bacon-ranch cutlet sandwiches — Poe announced on social media that the restaurant is closed, effective immediately.
“I’m not gonna bullshit you anymore because I consider us friends now,” he wrote on Instagram. “It breaks my little black heart to inform you that I’m going to have to shut down the joint at it’s [sic] current location.” The original post, now edited, included mention of a shady business loan and difficulties negotiating a long-term lease for the tiny space at 1429 Marlborough Street.
“Maybe I’ll become a mailman, or a transit cop, or get a job at the PPA and spend my days ticketing cars on Frankford Ave.
Who knows?!?!?!” Poe continued. “We’ll see which way the wind blows.”
